| A tourist van is the safest and most comfortable way to get from Guatemala City to San Pedro la Laguna. A van leaves Antigua Guatemala for San Pedro la Laguna at 2:00 p.m. seven days a week. If this does not work for your schedule, take a van to Panajachel and then a boat across the lake. | ||||||||||||

| 1. VAN to ANTIGUA There are tourist vans at the airport or at any of the hotels in Guatemala City which will take you to Antigua Guatemala. |

| 2. VAN DIRECT to SAN PEDRO LA
LAGUNA You can get a tourist van direct to San Pedro via most travel agencies in Antigua, but since the van from San Pedro will pick you up either at Yellow House or Black Cat in Antigua, it is probably best to go to one of those two agencies. Any Tuctuc (a tiny three seat cab) can take you to the Black Cat or Yellow House. The vans leave Antigua around 2:00 p.m. every day of the week. The trip to San Pedro will cost you about $10 and take about four hours. The agency which drives these vans is Casa Verde in San Pedro. The drivers are the very safest drivers I have traveled with in Guatemala. |

| 3. VAN to PANAJACHEL (This is
the alternative route. The vans leave Antigua for Panajachel daily at
starting at 7:00 a.m. and continue during the day. Depending on your
schedule, this may be the faster way. Any Tourist Agency in Antigua will make daily van trips to Panajachel. It will take about 3 hours and cost about $10. Get the van driver to drop you off at the dock to San Pedro. Walk down to the dock and get a boat direct to San Pedro. If you have a choice take the large launch with the excursion deck. It is slower, about an hour, but the trip is more enjoyable. On a calm day the ride from Panajachel across lake Atitlan to San Pedro can be one of the delights of Guatemala. There now very fast (10 to 20 minutes) direct (not stopping in all the small towns around the lake) small boats to San Pedro. Try not buy the ticket until the boat leaves. Do not buy a round trip ticket (it is a rip-off as you will have to come back with the same boat). The trip should cost no more than 15 quetzales. If you are being quoted 25 to 50 quetzales you are chartering a boat. If it is late and the weather looks bad you might want to stay in Panajachel and cross in the morning. |

| 4. To CASA ROSARIO .The people at Casa Verde will usually be willing to take you to Casa Rosario or get you a guide to take you there. There are two locations, the school building, and the garden classroom. There is usually someone in the garden during the day except on Saturday. After 6:00 you should go to the schooling building. There are maps of how to get to either the school building or the garden below. I suggest you print out the maps before you arrive. |
