  Occasionally people want to stay at a hotel rather than with a family or in the rooms at Casa Rosario. In that case I highly recommend Hotel Tepepul Kaan in San Pedro.  Hotel Tepepul Kaan gives 25% of the price of each guests to pay for the cost of eudcation for children from very poor families, and yet the prices are no more than other similar hotels in San Pedro. No other hotel in San Pedro that has such a program.
 
   The rooms are 50quetzales (about $6.50)  per person, per night. Each room has a small private bathroom with a shower. The hotel is close to the dock from Panajachel, but it is on a quiet side street so that when you want to rest you are able to.
  Tepepul is the Tz'utuhil name for the god or goddess of air or wind. Kaan is the word for day.

The acronym means: A little help for a good road
Ayuda (Spanish for help), Juun (Tz'utujil for one), Paaj (Tz'utuhil for little), Utziil (Tz'utujil for good), B'eey (Tz'utuhil for road or path)
