Casa Rosario is an exceptional Spanish school because of the quality of their teachers, the price, and the location on possibly the most beautiful lake in the world. Casa Rosario has three sites around San Pedro. The original building has classrooms, sleeping rooms for students, a communal kitchen, bathroom and a jungle-like garden. A few minutes walk away is Casa Rosario Dos where there are more student dormitories with their own kitchen and bathroom. The garden classroom is everybody’s favorite site. It is filled with banana trees and flowering plants year round and has a wonderful view of the lake and the San Pedro volcano. It is where most students now choose to study.
.
Brothers Samuel and Vicente Cumes, the directors of Casa Rosario, stand beneath a banana tree in the lakefront garden of Casa Rosario. Although students have the option of studying in either the garden or the school itself, the garden is by far the more popular option even in the rainy season.

Casa Rosario is one of the few Spanish language schools in Guatemala which offers three living options. You can live and eat with a Mayan family a few minutes walk from the school; you can live at Casa Rosario and prepare your meals in the communal kitchen, or you can take classes at the school and make your own living arrangements at a local hotel or with a friend. Among all the Spanish schools in Guatemala, Casa Rosario probably is willing to come up with the most creative options to accommodate special circumstances such as families with children. Occasionally people prefer a more luxurious living arrangement and Casa Rosario has arranged for them to live in a very nice nearby hotel and have the teacher come to teach in their room.

Vicente and Samuel Cumes sit on the stoop of the family home. Samuel's son Jose Vicente sits between his legs, and Vicente's youngest daughter Silvia stands behind. Casa Rosario is named for Vicente's other daughter Rosario.
.
Casa Rosario was the first Spanish language school in San Pedro and is one of only two accredited schools in San Pedro. It continues to be the standard against which the local schools are judged. Because students live at the school, the main school building is always open and there are usually people there talking and studying. There is an informal library of books available to help students in their studies. Casa Rosario never permits any of their Mayan families to have more than one student at a time (except for children with their parents) living with them. You will find this is not the case with most Guatemalan Spanish schools.
