| In San Pedro there are several good places for swimming in Lake Atitlán. You can wade out from the Casa Rosario garden to swim, but a better spot, because the water is a little warmer, is called the Punto de Oro. (Click on the photo above for a large image). From the muelle (dock) to Santiago Atitlán, it is about a five minute walk on a path near the shore. | |
If you want to swim in deep water the best place is the rocky point (photo
right). The water gets deep very quickly off the point. This photo of the
point was taken from the Casa Rosario garden. The water feels cold when you
first jump in, but you quickly become used to it. |
|
| Under no circumstances should you swim near either of the docks. People have been killed by the propellers of outboard boats that are constantly coming and going. | |

If
you would rather swim in a pool rather than the lake, San Pedro now has a
swimming pool, La Piscina (The Swimming Pool). Students at Casa Rosario get
to use the pool for free the first time. |
