Experienced Teachers: Our
teachers have many years experience working with students at all levels from
absolute beginners to people who are very advanced.
One Teacher per Student: All
classes are one on one, so each student progresses at a pace that is
comfortable for them.
Individual Homestay: Unlike other
Spanish schools, unless requested otherwise by the student, there is only one
student placed in each family. This maximizes the learning experience of each
student.
Lakefront Garden Classroom: Casa
Rosario students study in a garden in a natural setting on the shore of Lake
Atitlán, one of the world's most beautiful lakes. (The photo above is taken
from the garden.)
Extracurricular Activities: Casa
Rosario has a complete program of activities. Free activities include the use
of kayaks on the lake, salsa dancing lessons, and visiting interesting local
sites. Weaving classes and tours of more distant sites are available for a
nominal cost.
Optional Volunteer Experience:
Casa Rosario works with Rising Minds to find volunteer positions to
help with worthwhile projects in San Pedro and nearby communities.

Casa Rosario Spanish School, San Pedro la Laguna's oldest
Spanish School, is one of only three accredited Spanish
schools in San Pedro. Each student has an individual teacher, so he can
progress at his/her own pace. A home stay with a local family is recommended
for people who want
to learn the quickest. Unlike most other schools we place only one
student per family (unless the student requests to share with a friend or
family member), so the student gets the most out of the home stay. We are happy to adjust our program for people with special
needs, such as families with children. Casa Rosario has the most beautiful
garden in San Pedro where the students study. It is at the edge of Lake Atitlán. For students who wish to spend some time helping the local Maya
community there are Volunteer opportunities. Casa
Rosario administers a program that provides financial assistance for
schooling of some of the poorest Maya children in neighboring villages,
children who otherwise would drop out of school. Most common questions are
answered on the website, but before you email me with questions, please read
the FAQ page of the Frequently Asked Questions. Many people come to Guatemala to study Spanish intensively before
traveling to other parts of Central America, Mexico and South America. Among all the
Spanish language schools in Guatemala Casa Rosario in San Pedro la Laguna is certainly one
of the gems. It has the most beautiful location, and probably the
cheapest prices. The teachers all have teaching degrees and years of
experience teaching Spanish to non-Spanish speaking foreigners.

The classes at Casa Rosario are one student with
one teacher. For twenty hours of classes a week the prices run from $100 for
classes without lodging to $175 where the student lives and eats with a
Spanish speaking Mayan family in the town. The Classes
section gives more detailed information about the
school, the teachers and classes. Go to the Testimonials page for written
and video testimonials of students. The Activities section tells you about
activities popular with students both in San Pedro and other towns around Lake Atitlán.
It also tells about how to best find volunteer activities that you can do to
help while you are there. The Reservations section gives
the payment options and a reservation
form. The Directions section (part of the
Travel Tips section) tells you how to find Casa Rosario in San Pedro and
how to get to San Pedro. The Travel Tips section
gives you advice on what to bring and
tips about food, money and medicine. There is also a sub section on
Hotels, both in Guatemala City and in San Pedro la
Laguna.

The school is a short distance from Lake Atitlán, where even at
6:00a.m. a dip in the water is warm but refreshing. Casa Rosario works in accordance with
the time the student has available to study whether it be a week or a couple of
months. Most students choose to study only half a day, so the other half can be used
to visit traditional Mayan towns a short walk or boat ride away, or perhaps to take a
horse ride up the Volcano San Pedro. Casa Rosario provides cayucos free of charge
for the use of its students. Attending this school is undoubtedly like having your cake
and eating it too.
